Daniel H. Edwards was born and raised in Amite, Louisiana. He was Valedictorian of Amite High School in 1986, and he graduated with honors from Louisiana State University in 1990 with a Bachelor of Arts degree. Thereafter, Daniel graduated with honors from the Loyola School of Law where he was a member of the Loyola Law Review.

Upon graduating from Loyola, Daniel served as a law clerk for Judge A.J. McNamara in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Louisiana. After completing his clerkship, Daniel returned to Amite and practiced law as a solo practitioner for six years until he joined his father, Frank M. Edwards, Jr., and his brother, John B.
